How To Cut Curly Hair

Not every hairstylist knows how to cut curly hair!!

Some ways to judge if your stylist can be trusted.

It’s a scary thought, but not every hairstylist is trained properly and not all of them know how to cut curly hair. These hairdressers not only don’t know how to cut curly hair, but they generally don’t know the right kinds of products, techniques and styles to use either. Here are some pointers you can use while searching for and ultimately finding a trustworthy and talented hairstylist.

Early Bird gets the worm. When making your first appointment with a new stylist, show up early. Be polite and pleasant and insure the front counter staff that you are fine to wait patiently. However, try to watch your future hairstylist as well as the other hairstylists while they work. See if you can tell who is confident, who is in training and who is possibly in a managerial position.

See if your hairstylist is liked, valued and trusted. Also make sure to take note of any other clients who have curly hair. Do any of them look like regular return clients? All of these observations can help you to feel more secure about your salon and hairstylist and whether or not they know how to cut curly hair.

Come unprepared. One of the most common mistakes made by women with curly hair is that they go through their morning routine of shampooing, conditioning and styling even though it will all be undone once they reach the salon.

Try arriving with your hair as natural as possible, pass on both washing and styling your hair and see what your hairstylist suggests. If he seems to be awe-struck and confused by your hair’s natural state, then you know he may not know how to cut curly hair.

Ask for Advice. The biggest mistake most women with curly hair make while in a hairstylist’s chair is to sit silently and hope for the best. Hairstylists, though generally talented, are not mind readers. If you have concerns, questions or are displeased with your haircut, you have to be willing to say something. Your hairstylist may not only know how to cut curly hair, they may be an expert at it, but you will never know if you simply sit by and watch them work.

If you are unsatisfied with your hairstyle but are unwilling to say so, your stylist will assume you are content and continue. Speak up, a good stylist will appreciate your honesty and input and will work with you to find your perfect cut and style.
